Vice-Regal farewell

PA Wellington The Governor-General. Sir David Beattie, and Lady Beattie will leave today for a 10-day farewell visit to Fiji and the Cook Islands. Sir David’s term as Gov-ernor-General will end on November 6. The Vice-Regal party will

travel to Suva via Nandi for a welcome from Fiji’s Gov-ernor-General, Ratu Sir Penaia Ganilau, at the start of Sir David’s first official Fijian trip. In the course of a fiveday visit, the party will call at the three largest of Fiji’s 320 islands — Viti Levu,

Vanua Levu, and Taveuni. The visit will continue in the Cook Islands from Tuesday with three days in Rarotonga. Sir David and Lady Beattie will stay aboard the Navy hydrographic survey vessel Monowai during this part of the trip.
