The day in Parliament
Three reports were tabled when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. today. The Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, tabled the report of the Legal Aid Board on operations of the Legal Aid Act and the report of the Johnsonville Licensing Trust. The Minister of Finance, Mr Douglas, tabled the report of the Inland Revenue Department. Members presented 18 notices of motion. Ministers answered 19 questions. The Statistics Amendment Bill was then given its second reading. The Maori Purposes Bill was
given its second reading. Debate began on the committal stages of the Insurance Law Reform Bill (No. 2). The committee divided the bill into the Insurance Law Reform Bill (No. 2) and the Friendly Societies and Credit Unions Bill (No. 2) and the bills were set down for a third reading. Debate then began on the second reading of the Criminal Justice Bill (No. 2). The bill was given a second reading and the House then adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., members debated the first report of the Standing Orders Committee on the proposed new standing orders. The debate was interrupted when the House rose at 10.29 p.m. ,
