Temporary crane in 10 days

By

OLIVER RIDDELL

in Wellington A permanent replacement for the Lyttelton container crane will be commissioned in December, according to the Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble.

In the meantime, a temporary Samba crane would replace the collapsed Skyhorse mobile crane, itself a replacement for the collapsed main container crane.

The Lyttelton container cranes were the subject of an urgent question ‘in Parliament yesterday by Mr Philip Burdon (Nat., Fendalton).

Mr Burdon asked if the Minister could advise what action he was taking to guarantee the continued flow of goods through the Port of Lyttelton after the collapse of the replacement crane.

The Samba crane would be commissioned in 10 days time.
