Return to leadership predicted
PA Wellington The self-imposed political exile of the New Zealand Party’s leader, Mr Bob Jones, will be shortlived, according to the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Mr Bolger. Mr Jones was a master at publicity, Mr Bolger told the Waihi Beach branch of the National Party on Friday. Last Monday, Mr Jones and the New Zealand Party’s president, Mr Malcolm McDonald, announced that the party would go into recess for 18 months, a move which was later angrily denied by other party members. “I don’t believe Bob Jones intends to go into recess,” Mr Bolger said.
