Sir,—Contrary to R. M. Broadbent’s claims (“The Press,” July 12), South Africa is not “the only country in the world that embodies in its laws discrimination” which is “indefensible on religious and moral grounds.” Israel’s laws and Government actions follow an almost identical form of discrimination against non-Jews, particularly the fellow-Semitic Palestinians, whether Israeli citizens or those of the West Bank and similar “territories.” Israel’s Law of Return, giving Jewish people automatic citizenship, and the use of a “Bantustan” method of settlement, are but two of many racist and discriminatory methods used. The Israeli soccer team will play here in October in the World Cup contest, yet we have heard not a peep from the Mintos, etc. Selective morality? — Yours, etc W. A. JAMES. July 12, 1985. <
