Siamese twin calves die

PA Whangarei Siamese twin calves were born by caesarean section on a farm near Whangarei, but both they and the cow died. The calves were delivered after a three-hour caesarean operation by Greg and Diane Martin’s local veterinarian.

At first the couple could not work out why the calves would not budge. “We could not figure out why they wouldn’t come out. Usually twins come out easily,” Mrs Martin said. “We knew it was twins because Greg felt two heads and a whole lot of legs.” The calves were joined at the abdomen. Their legs were stiff at the joints while their back legs were twisted backwards and up towards the tail because of lack of room to grow, she said.
