On the Nose wins

By STEVE WILSON On the Nose won the M.S.A. Cup (530 m the feature event of the Ashburton County Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting yesterday. After running third in her elimination maiden heat earlier in the day, she began well from box No. 8 in the final to take up a handy position, behind early pacemaker Slitrig Gold. With about 250 m to run she took the lead and maintained a length advantage to the line.

Slitrig Gold headed the others, with Genuine Honey storming home late to take third. Havoc’s Planet maintained his good recent form to win the C 5 event over 530 m. After trailing Silent Kilty early he powered away to win by two lengths. The way he has been running out his races lately suggests he could be one of next season’s stars. Alvarez showed that he has thrived with a spell away from racing. He was finishing strongly for third, and the run suggests he should strike winning form soon. Other winners were: Tredeka’s Babe (Cl, 530 m, 31.995), Kenrick Sue (C2, 530 m, 31.425), Fliperty Gibert (C 3 530 m, 31.855), Riverside Mint (C 4 530 m, 31.495), Jantu (Cl, 295 m, 17.315), Kwik Thor (C2, 295 m, 17.81 s), Mirage Star (C2, 295 m, 17.595), Cheeky Kate (C 3 295 m, 17.395), Chinook Lass (C 4 295 m, 17.255).
