Lord Seaton popular T.A.B. treble anchor

By

JEFF SCOTT

Lord Seaton will be a popular anchor for T.A.B. trebles betters at the New Brighton Trotting Club’s meeting postponed from Saturday, which is now to be run tonight. Persistent rain from Friday afternoon did not look like abating when a special meeting was held at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, forcing the postponement. The decision was a wise one, as drizzly rain continued well into the night, with the weather clearing yesterday.

Tonight’s programme has been put back 30 minutes from the original starting times, the first race now beginning at 5.45 p.m. Lord Seaton, a $2.35 win favourite at the New Zealand Metropolitan meeting the previous Saturday, was knocked out of contention by a breaking runner with 500 m to go when the Ash-burton-trained gelding appeared to be travelling well. His previous form was of a high standard and he looks well placed to prove his last-start form wrong in the Blayco Furniture Trot, the second leg of the T.A.B.

treble. Garry’s Last, the runnerup in three of his last four starts, is overdue for a win in the third leg, the David Craw Cars Mobile Pace, with Lucky Batch, a comfortable trials winner at Addington 12 days ago, Flying Folly and the last-start winner, Mystery Affair, other possibilities. Adios Lord, Tenner Reef and Gunther are three form runners for the first leg, the 55 Riccarton Road Mobile Pace, in which the chances of Natwork News, Flying Charlotte and Dejeuner are also respected.
