Thermal Windows Chosen for Town Hall Contract When tenders were called for the insulating of the Town Hall Restuarant windows many options were open. Firstly there was the possibility of just slapping another piece of glass behind those that were there ... an inexpensive idea, but very temporary and aesthetically unattractive. Then there were those with ideas of fitting stepped sealed units, where all the weight of one side of a double glazing unit is suspended on the other. It works, to a point, but how messy and how risky, and, once tidying up the unsightly joints was performed, how expensive. INNOVATIVE SYSTEM NEEDED Enter the Warmlight Adaptor. A simple aluminium device designed specifically for glazing sealed double glazing systems into rebates initially designed for single glazing. This system received full endorsement from the Architects of the Town Hall. NEW THERMAL GAS FILLED UNITS Although the contract was let early in the year, it was decided to hold off the reglazing of the restaurant and wait for the new gas filled Thermal Window. Unlike every other sealed system available, which use air in the interspace, while costing no more, the Thermal Window offers insulation qualities almost 20% better, due to the use of a specially developed thermal gas. PLEASING RESULTS According to Cliff Wilson, the operations manager for the Town Hall, the result of installing Thermal Windows is well up to expectations. Cold radiation and down draughts from the windows have been reduced dramatically meaning greater comfort for patrons. Already, meters and highly sophisticated graph charting equipment show a significant reduction in electricity usage. Comfortable temperatures are attained in the restaurant more quickly and are held far more easily at a lower energy output. An extra comment offered is that the restaurant is significantly quieter due to inherent sound absorbing qualities of a Thermal Window. REGLAZING PROVING WORTHWHILE The Park Hotel in Rolleston Avenue has also reglazed using the Warmlight Adaptor and double glazing to achieve temperature control and reduce noise. Both of these have been achieved and are now being incorporated into other accommodation developments undertaken by the Carter Group.
