Philippa Idour wins eighth squash title
Notwithstanding a distinct shortage of competitive squash this season Philippa Idour has won the Christchurch • club championship for the eighth time. Idour, who has played no inter-club squash this season, was extended over five games in both the semi-finals and the final. The men’s champion in the tournament which ended at the week-end was Elliott Jones who joined the club this year when he moved south from Wanganui to pursue his university studies.
Although taken to five games in his semi-final the top-seeded Jones beat Wayne Seebeck, the 1983 champion, 30, in the final. Results:— Men.— Semi-finals: E. Jones beat A. Casey, 7-9, 3-9, 9-4, 9-4,9-5; W. Seebeck beat E. Post, 9-7, 9-6, 6-9, 3-9, 9-7. Final: Jones beat Seebeck, 9-2, 9-7,' 9-8. Women.— Semi-finals: P. Idour beat W. Dann, 9-4, 9-5, 79, 6-9, 9-3; A. Huriwai beat S. Marshall, 10-9, 9-2, 5-9, 7-9, 9-2. Final: Idour beat Huriwai, 2-9, 9-3, 1-9, 9-5, 9-1.
