A large architecturallydesigned Scarborough Road house set on nearly threequarters of an acre, was sold for $220,000 at public auction on July 11. Designed by registered architects Harry Siedler, and Lucking, Vial and Bellerby, the 2250 sq ft house has uninterrupted views over Sumner Bay to the Alps. It features separate lounge and living rooms which open to a large, sheltered and covered balcony, three double bedrooms, two bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. The house was described as set amongst “a profusion of established trees and shrubs”
with easy access to covered carparking. The property, which was held in three titles, but sold as one, has a combined Government Valuation (1984) of $150,000. The auction attracted between 30 and 40 people, and the auctioneer was Mr Stephen Collins, of Collins Real Estate. A large, stately home set in the rural surrounds of Halswell, sold for $155,000 at a public auction on July 5. The house, described as an historic residence, of approximately 2500 sq ft in size, has been completely rebuilt over the last three years with new wiring,
plumbing, and cladding. The house, on Halswell Junction Road, features four large bedrooms, large open plan living, a separate living room, two bathrooms and a double garage. The property is one and three quarter acres in size, and has a Government Valuation (1982) of $BB,OOO. The auctioneer of the property was Mr Phil Alexander of Sherris and Robertson, Ltd. A spacious town house in the heart of Fendalton, on Garden Road, failed to reach the reserve at a recent auction, and was passed in at $32,500. The flat, which includes a spacious entrance hall, large lounge, separate dining room, two double bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, and single garage with internal access, had a Government Valuation (1980) of $57,000. The auctioneer was Mr N. H. McCrostie of N. H. McCrostie and Co. A large, two-storey brick
commercial building in Sydenham was sold by public auction on July 10 for $152,000. The building, located on the corner of Wordsworth Street and Colombo Street, covers an area of 21.7 perches (549 sq m) was described as having three tenants of long standing, and carrying a Government Valuation (1984) of $103,000. The auctioneer, Mr Basil Nottingham, of Perpetual Real Estate, said that about 30 people attended the auction and that the bidding was brisk. A small holding in Tai Tapu, with two three-bed-room houses, set on almost seven acres of land, was passed in at auction on July 3 for $175,000. The property had a Government Valuation of $105,000. There was a small attendance at the auction, and the auctioneer was Mr Rod Cameron of Wrightson N.M.A. The property is back on the market.
