Assassination policy —TV
NZPA-Reuter Washington The Reagan administration was studying a policy option of assassinating those it believed to be terrorist leaders, an American television network reported yesterday. The White House had no comment on the report about the option, which, if finally approved, would reverse a decade-old ban on United States Governmentauthorised assassinations. The N.B.C. network news programme quoted unnamed Administration officials as saying that all
policy options, including assassination, would be presented to the President, Mr Ronald Reagan, for consideration. One suggestion being discussed, it said, was to permit military commando teams to do the executions. Congress outlawed assassination by or on behalf of the United States Government after disclosure in 1975 that the Central Intelligence Agency had tried to assassinate the Cuban leader, Dr Fidel Castro, and several Government heads.
