I THERMAL POWER STATION I SENIOR ENGINEERS | Th® Hydro-Electric Commission Tasmania operates an electrical power system with an installed capacity of 1940 MW including 240 MW of oil fired thermal plant. Future development options include a major coal-fired, thermal power station. The Commission is seeking staff for a number of senior positions at its Bell Bay Power Station, situated In northern Tasmania. The power station comprises 2 x 120 MW oil-fired units with steam conditions of 13100 kPA/540 degrees C/540 degrees C and Is located 8 km from George Town and 45 km from Launceston. The station has a complement of 58 people. Applicants must be eligible for Membership of the Institute of Engineers, Australia. POWER STATION SUPERINTENDENT (ENGINEER) POSITION NO. 115/85 SALARY: In a range to $44,616 per annum. Opportunity exists for reclassification to $47,054 per annum. The Power Station Superintendent will be responsible for management of all aspects of the power station complex. MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER POSITION NO. 116/85 SALARY: In a range to $36,517 per annum. Responsible to the Maintenance Engineer for all mechanical maintenance within the station complex. Opportunities will be provided to gain experience In all aspects of power station engineering. ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE ENGINEER POSITION NO. 117/85 SALARY: In a range to $36,517 per annum. Responsible to the Maintenance Engineer for the maintenance of all electrical equipment and instrumentation within the station complex. RESEARCH ECONOMIST The Corporation is the Australian wool industry's central organisation with important statutory responsibilities in wool research, marketing and development (from raw wool to end product) both in Australia and overseas. Applied economic research is a major input to the operation of both the Corporation and the wool industry. The Job: The successful candidate would be responsible for research on a wide range of topics, associated with the production, processing and marketing of wool, advice to senior management and the Board on corporate policy and economic aspects of developments in wool marketing. There would also be some involvement in market forecasting and analysis. The Person: Will preferably have a post-graduate degree in Agricultural Economics or Economics. Experience in empirical research, particularly commodity analysis work, would be an advantage. Proven initiative in applying economic principles and the ability to present results in written reports is essential. Knowledge of the wool industry is desirable. As this is an important senior position, the salary is negotiable and will reflect the qualifications and experience required. Excellent career prospects exist.
