A full-time Surgeon Superintendent, or 2. A Specialist Surgeon, or 3. The appointee will have the opportunity of performing a wide range of surgery. Major cases, or those requiring specialist care, can be referred to the base hospital, Southland Hospital, Kew, Invercargill. Seddon Memorial Hospital, situated 63 kilometres from Invercargill, has 120 general beds, a 3bed Special Care Unit and a 15-bed Maternity Ward with Laboratory and X-Ray facilities available. Married or single accommodation will be available to the appointee. A good range of medical services is provided by the Hospital for the population of Gore and the surrounding rural area. Some clinics are held by specialists from Southland Hospital, Kew. , VACANCY NO. 15/29/16(A) APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED from suitablyqualified Specialists registered, or registerable by the N.Z. Medical Council as Specialists, who have an interest in pursuing a career in administration, for the position of Medical Superintendent at Southland Hospital, Kew, Invercargill, N.Z. Previous experience in medical administration, although preferable, is not essential, as the successful applicant will be given an opportunity to receive ongoing training and experience in this modality if necessary. The appointment will be a full-time administrative one but if a suitable applicant wishes to keep in touch with his clinical specialty, it may be possible to negotiate clinical sessions, dependent on the specialty. The successful applicant will be based at Southland Hospital, Kew, which is a suburb of Invercargill. A detached house is available at a reasonable rental. Southland hospital, Kew has 470 beds Including a Psychiatric Unit of 40 beds, a new Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit of 40 beds, an Obstetric Unit of 90 beds, an Intensive Care Unit and a Coronary Care Unit. The Clinical Services Block contains the Accident and Emergency Department and Holding Ward, Outpatients Department, four Operating Theatres, Pharmacy, Central Sterile Supply Department, Medical Imaging Department, Medical Records, Medical and Nursing Administration Offices and a Medical Centre which features a well-stocked Medical Library. The hospital is well-catered for with all normal ancillary Departments and Services. The conditions of appointment and salary scales for both positions are in accordance with Health Service Determination No. M. 10 (Medical Officers).
