r Fletcher Wood Panels Ltd Two Key Operations Appointments Neg above $4O 000 + car etc. Taupo The Company is a principal sector of the Fletcher Challenge group and at Taupo operates the group’s second largest site in New Zealand (after Tasman at Kawerau). The three existing particle board plants at Taupo are amongst the world’s most efficient and cost effective. A major expansion of the site is presently being undertaken with the construction of a $45 million technologically advanced medium density fibreboard (MDF) plant. Integration of the MDF facility in the existing infrastructure will enhance the cost competitiveness of both product ranges. Much of the output is exported. The new developments and associated restructuring have culminated in two openings at senior management level, with opportunities for further promotion likely in the medium term. Both positions report to the Site Manager and entail significant input to strategic and policy planning of the Company, as key members of the site management team. They call for executives whose backgrounds have ideally included a capital intensive continuous process industry, but not necessarily timber related, together with knowledge of the utilisation of advanced management techniques and operational systems in the manufacturing environment. Engineering Manager The responsibility of this position covers all engineering services for the entire site, currently carried out by a team of some 60 people. In addition to ensuring the optimum utilisation of existing plant and resources, the Engineering Group has major responsibilities in respect of capital projects (but the MDF project in its construction phase is controlled by a special team). Applicants must be highly skilled in professional engineering management on a broad functional scale. A degree level qualification in any branch of engineering is desirable. Production Manager The appointee will be in charge of the three particle board plants, also wood receipt and preparation for the whole complex and the manufacture of chemicals used in the particle board and MDF processes. These activities employ about 100 people. The role focuses on achievement of planned production levels within time, cost, efficiency and quality parameters, with a further goal of identifying potential for improvements in processing methods, plant modifications and the like. The key requirement is a superior track record in manufacturing management. Tertiary qualifications in industrial chemistry, engineering or similar would be of advantage.
