Bringing back the red
The Red Overalls. By Jane Buxton. Concept Publishing, 1985. $6.95 Children enjoy this delightful tale of Josie and her red overalls — and to be very fond of a piece of clothing is not the prerogative of children. One day the overalls flew off the clothesline and were lost. Josie didn’t feel like doing anything at all. To cheer her up, her father , took her to a jumble sale where Josie found her overalls on a sales table. The overalls were identified by the turned-up bottoms which her father had sewn with green cotton. They bought the overalls and Josie wore them to bed rather than risk their loss again. “You must never go travelling again, unless I’m wearing you.” The pictures are kept simple with the overalls always coloured red. The only other colour used is black. It is obvious when the overalls are lost, as the red is missing.—Pat Penrose.
