South African M.P.’s visit

Sir,—Abe Williams, M.P., is a very popular Coloured representative of the South African Parliament. As a man of honour, a world traveller, a double university degree holder, and, before entering Parliament, headmaster of a major school in Cape Town, it was no surprise that he was elected to Parliament with what is believed, percentage-wise, to be one of the biggest majorities ever, anywhere. Hardly “almost entirely discredited” as Canon John Osmers claims (“The Press,” July 9). During three days in Christchurch Abe Williams met and addressed many people, in many walks of life; did radio talks and talk-backs and television interviews. At all times he showed responsibility, strength of character and absolute honesty. He has nothing to hide—Yours, etc BERT WALKER. July 10, 1985.
