Bastille Day

Sir,—l assure your correspondent, Esme Moreira (July 11) that Akaroa Village Inn is non-political. We are in the leisure and pleasure business. On July 13, the eve of Bastille Day, the staff will be in French costume, the restaurant will be decorated, there will be live music, and a French buffet will be served, simply in memory of the original founders of Akaroa — New Zealand’s only former French settlement. Bastille Day was celebrated in Akaroa long before our complex was built. We aim merely to provide our guests with a little fun and merriment. We are not aiming to make political conversions one way or the other. — Yours, etc., N. GRENFELL, Marketing director, Akaroa Village Inn. July 11, 1985.
