Goldie paintings returned
PA Auckland Fourteen previously unknown paintings by the artist, C. F. Goldie, have been returned to New Zealand for sale. When Goldie died in 1947, his wife, Olive, returned to her native Australia, leaving in his studio the last of the paintings. She refused to allow the collection to be photographed or to reveal what it contained. However, when Mrs Goldie died in 1976, the paintings passed to Goldie’s nephew, who felt an obligation to return them to New Zealand from Australia. Mr Peter Webb, the art dealer who has brought them back to New Zealand, said that the collection, valued about $lOO,OOO, would be sold by auction this month.
