PA Wellington The petition of the chairman of the Ararua Time Committee, Peter Graham Russell, and 12,408 others for daylight saving to be shortened to the period from the end of the school year to the first Sunday in March was presented by Dr Lockwood Smith (Nat., Kaipara) when Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The Minister of Employment, Mr Burke, also presented a petition from the Greymouth branch of the Nurses’ Association and 192 others seeking the repeal of the State Services Conditions of Employment Act, 1983. Members- presented 17 notices of motion. Ministers answered 17 questions. Mr Kenneth Shirley (Lab., Tasman) introduced the Waimea County Council (Motueka Harbour) Vesting and Empowering Bill.

The Auckland Aotea Centre Empowering Bill was introduced by Mr R. W. Prebble (Lab., Auckland Central) and referred to the Local Bills Committee.

When the House rose for the dinner adjournment at 5.30 p.m. it was debating the petition of C. R. Turner and 4270 others praying that Parliament enact legislation to prohibit cigarette advertising in all its forms.

The chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee, Mr T. J. Young (Lab., East Hutt), said that the committee had no recommendation to make. He moved that the report lie on the table.

The debate was interrupted when the House adjourned for dinner.

Debate continued on the interrupted second reading of the Appropriation Bill (No. 2) when the House resumed at 7.30 p.m. The debate was interrupted when the House rose at 10.30 p.m.
