South Island ski-field conditions reported to the Christchurch Snow Centre yesterday were:— Atnuri: Closed until further snow. Broken Riven Base 32cm; main runs groomed; chains to be carried. Cardrona: Last fall 2cm July 9; packed powder on groomed trails; all facilities operating, double-chair from mid-station; chains required. Coronet Peak: Average 25cm base; last fall scm July 7; good ski-ing, groomed areas; marginal base area; all facilities operating except Happy Valley poma; chains to be carried. Mount Cheeseman: Excellent snow; T-bar and learners’ tows operating; chains required. Mount Dobson: Base 30cm; firm snow; T-bar, platter and learner lifts operating; chains required. Harris Mountains: Base 75cm; last fall July 9; dry powder on firm base; excellent conditions; helicopters operating subject to weather. Mount Hutt Base 5" ton; last fall 7cm July 9; nfe-ai runs
groomed; packed powder snow; all facilities operating; chains to be fitted. Ohau: Base 40 to 60cm; last fall July 9; packed powder with occasional firm patches; T-bar, platter and learner tows operating; chains required from toll-gate. Tasman Glacier: Last fall 10cm July 9; dry powder skiing; ski planes operating subject to weather. Treble Cone:Base 65cm upper slopes, 25cm lower slopes; last fall scm July 9; camel and ridge runs groomed; all facilities operating; chains required. Fox Glacier: 150 cm powder snow on firm base; last fall July 9; ski planes and helicopter operating subject to weather. Mount Cook heli-ski: Base one metre; last fall scm July 9; dry powder ski-ing; helicopter operating subject to weather. Twixel heli-ski: 10cm powder on Im base; helicopter operating subject to weather. Rainbow: base 35 to 55cm; groomed powder, all facilities operating; chains essential.
