Legal aid boost studied
PA Wellington A Justice Department paper has been prepared to investigate whether the interest on solicitors’ trust accounts should be used to fund legal service projects, such as legal aid. The paper examined the merits of such a scheme, but no decision had been made, the Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer, has told Parliament. He said that discussions had been held between Justice Department officials and the Law Society on the introduction of a scheme but he believes that no agreement had so far been reached.
