$NZ rises to 0.48
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar rose on the back of a weaker United States dollar to go through the SUSO.4B level in late afternoon trading on the foreign exchange market yesterday. The New Zealand dollar traded at $U50.4803/13, compared with its $U50.4780/87 opening and $U50.4770/77 previous close. Dealers said that in spite of the firmer local dollar, there was no real confidence in the unit.
Yesterday the New Zealand dollar was worth 48.1 c US, 69.6 c Australian, 34.9 p, 117.1 yen and 1.41 marks. The Australian dollar traded at $U50.6907/14 in the late afternoon, compared with $U50.6903/10 at the opening and $U50.6836/46 at the previous close. The United States dollar was slightly firmer at 2.9412/22 marks, compared with its 2.9385/00 local opening and 2.9380/00 close in New York, dealers said.
