Fisheries Management Division consists of 220 staff throughout New Zealand, made up of groups of Scientists, Technicians, Fisheries Officers and Administrators, who are heavily engaged currently in developments in the Inshore Fishery with a view to bringing in radical changes in Fisheries Management over the next 12 months. To enable the Division to implement these policies there is an urgent need for an effective Staff Training and Development Officer to assist with much needed training for the Scientists and Technician group and to develop management training for the Managers of all occupational groups within the Division. It is expected that this person will act as a facilitator at Divisional meetings, conferences, and workshop and also advise the Directorate of the Division on the implementation of management strategies and succession planning within the Divsion and ensure that all personnel are familiar with these management strategies. The qualifications required are tertiary education with a science degree being an advantage, and experience in group facilitation, training and management. This person will need personal drive to implement his or her ideas and concepts, a sound understanding of organisational development and change concepts and management concepts and practices, and be able to work effectively with a wide range of occupational groups. THE PERSON Working in isolation from the rest of the Commsission staff will demand both reliable self motivation and a clear ability to communicate with the operations engineer, wage workers, contractors and staff of other agencies. The incumbent will enjoy outdoor work but will also be able to methodically manage office work on their own. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE N.Z.C.E. (Civil) or equivalent. The Incumbent will require a minimum of eight years experience which should include works programming, contract supervision, heavy plant operation, forestry operations and personnel management.
