Rate increases
Sir,—When the elderly of Merivale are forced to move from the homes they have occupied for decades, and the land developers move in with their bulldozers, the whole fault must rest at the feet of the present Citizens’ Christchurch City Council. It is time the Government stepped in to protect the citizens of Merivale who are forced to pay ridiculously high rate demands because of massive overspending by this greedy bloated corporate body. The rights of the people need to be protected from any democratically-elected organisation which is shown to have gone out of control and has a lust for power which overrides the job it was voted to do. — Yours, etc., J. J. LOUISSON. July 4, 1985.
