Kaiapoi usquebaugh

A new whisky, blended at Kaiapoi, is expected to be released on the market in six to eight weeks. The managing director of Southern Grain Spirits New Zealand, Ltd, Mr John Fitzpatrick, said high-qual-ity New Zealand grain spirit would be blended with “carefully selected” aged malt whisky from Scotland. The new whisky would be marketed as a local product, he said. Because of the New Zea-

land content, the whisky would attract a lower duty than imported whiskies, making it “competitively priced” for consumers. Mr Fitzpatrick said he did not know the selling price of the • whisky. The industry was “extremely competitive” and the final price would depend on what mark-up was added by retailers. The company has made gin and vodka for the last four years.
