Canty Belle amiss
NZPA-AAP Brisbane , The glamour filly, Canterbury Belle, is lame and will miss the Rothmans 100,000 at Doomben tomorrow. Canterbury Belle, which shared pre-post favouritism for the prestige sprint, was scratched by her connections on veterinary advice. The Riccarton trainer, Dave Kerr, discovered something was amiss with the Beaufort Sea filly when she pulled up sore after her final Rothmans trial at Brisbane’s Deagon training centre yesterday. The swelling in her offhind leg worsened and Kerr sent out a call for the chief Brisbane steward, Mr Paul
Byrne, and veterinary surgeon, Mr tsoo Mason, to inspect the three-year-old. On inspection Canterbury Belle was found to be so lame that she was reluctant to put her foot on the ground. “We inspected her at 4.15 p.m. and had no option but to declare her a non-runner for the Rothmans,” Mr Byrne said. Canterbury Belle shared favouritism at 5-1 with a fellow New Zealander, Atrapar, and West Australian raider, Coal Pac. She was attempting to become only the fourth horse to win both the Elders Handicap and the Rothmans.
