tt shotjt D NOT ao unrecorded that the opposing orops Greg Dowling (Australia) and Kevin Tamati (New Zealand), again left the field together after the second test at Auckland last Slay. After 80 minutes of uncompromising football in which neither player had sought to “sauare off for their unseemly behaviour in the opening international at Brisbane, Dowling sought Tarnati out to console him tn the grief of a lastminute loss It was the third time that Tamati had been in a Kiwi test side beaten by alate Australian try — next Sunday he will probably have his last opportunity to partly balance the ledger. IF THE RUGBY test at Eden Park last Saturday was not the flowing game that the crowd was wanting, they did have the consolation of getting value for money from the $2 programme. It would have to be one of the best programmes ever produced for a test in New Zealand. There was, however, one unfortunate mistake, which was enlarged by the P.A. announcer when she introduced the teams. This was a misprint which named the top Canterbury referee, Tom Doocey, who was one of the touch judges, as “Tom Dooley.” Mr Doocey was later resigned to the fact that he was gong to have to put up with acquaintances greeting him with the opening bars of the late 1950 s song “Hang down your head, Tom Dooley ...” for a few weeks. BILL MUNRO, the experienced Auckland official, has been appointed as a referee at the world youth soccer championship finals in Russia later this year. Munro, who has controlled more Rothmans League matches than any other official still involved at that level, is one of 25 men selected to take charge of matches in the finals, from August 24 until September 7.
