Sir Robertson Stewart has been appointed chairman of Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd. Sir Robertson is a director of Williams Property Holdings, Ltd, the Welling-ton-based property development and investment company, and his appointment follows the recent unanimous shareholders’ approval for Williams property Holdings, Ltd, to take over Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd. Mr Michael J. Brooks will be appointed managing director of the company, based in Christchurch. Mr Brooks has wide experience in property, originally as a town planner, and in more recent years as a property development and construction executive. Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd, is carrying out two contracts for the Ministry of Works and De-
velopment at Lincoln College, involving the construction of office and laboratory buildings, as well as the construction of an office block for the Rural Bank in Rangiora, and a four-storey office block in central Christchurch.
Williams Property Holdings, Ltd, has recently taken up an option to purchase a prime site in Kilmore Street for the construction of Durham Towers, a 12-storey tourist accommodation centre. The Durham Towers project which will be constructed by Williams Construction Canterbury, Ltd. The Wellington company also recently purchased for $850,000 the Epworth Chambers Building on the corner of Hereford Street and Manchester Street.
This property will be redeveloped in the medium term as a multi-storey retail and office complex.
