Comfortable wins in squash finals
Steven Wren (Sumner) and Dianne Steele (Linwood) were comfortable winners of their finals when the Slazenger Canterbury under-23 squash championships ended at the Bumside club courts yesterday. The best matches were in the men’s semi-finals where both Wren and Michael Allred (Burnside) had closely contested five-set encounters with their opponents. Players had to contend with a slippery floor for most of the week-end. Results: Men.— Semi-finals: Wren beat Sean O’Brien (Burnside), 9-3, 10-9, 5-9, 2-9, 9-0; Allred beat Nigel Lloyd (Burnside), 97, 6-9, 9-5, 3-9, 9-6.
