I SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING APPOINTMENT THE COMMISSION is a statutory authority of the State of Tasmania constituted under the HydroElectric Commission Act, 1944. It is responsible for the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electrical energy throughout the State and for the construction of power developments and associated works required for this purpose. It is responsible to the Parliament of Tasmania through the Minister administering the Act. It has its headquarters in Hobart and directly employs about 5,000 persons throughout the State. The Commission consists of a commissioner and three part time Associate Commissioners. Its work is divided into five branches. THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BRANCH has responsibilities for planning and development, and the electrical and mechanical engineering work associated with the design and construction of power stations, transmission lines, terminal substations and system communications. Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for THE POSITION of: ASSISTANT CHIEF ELECTRICAL ENGINEER (DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION) This is a high level appointment immediately responsible to the Chief Electrical Engineer who reports directly to the Commissioner. It demands direct participation in Branch management and offers the opportunity to contribute to policy matters and the future development of the Commission. THE APPOINTEE will be a professional engineer with an outstanding record of personal achievement and sound managerial experience who can provide vigorous and responsible leadership to three discrete Divisions of the Branch having responsibility for all aspects of design, drawing and construction of power stations, substations and EHV transmission lines. A broad knowledge of all, together with in-depth experience in at least some of the aspects of engineering identified above is required and the appointee will also possess proven qualities of H engineering-management, including the control of large capital expenditure programmes, and have extensive knowledge of large power systems. THE SALARY will commence in a range up to $55,359 per annum and the position location is Hobart although periodic travel throughout the State is necessary.
