The Unit is responsible for the collection and analysis of statistics relating to the Department’s Social Work and Benefits and Pensions functions. This information covers a wide range of activities j including Social Work, Children and Young Persons Court appearances, benefits, including the unemployment and domestic purposes benefits, and national superannuation. Duties: The appointee will undertake statistical analysis work relating to the Department’s operations and will provide short reports on various topics. Considerable use is made of computer packages, such as SAS and SPSS, to extract statistics from computer based data and the appointee will assist in this area. Qualification: The ideal appointee will have a relevant university degree with some background in statistical methods and analysis. A practical knowledge of computing or mathematics would be rele- : vant to the position, and applicants should have an interest in Social Welfare matters and policy.
