All positions are situated in Wellington. VACANCY 6377 - WASTE MANAGEMENT Environmental assessment of policies and projects particularly on solid waste management including waste recovery. A good working knowledge of waste disposal and recovery programmes is desirable. Duties will include liaison with industry and government agencies. Qualifications: Honours degree or equivalent in science, geography, natural resource management or geography. VACANCY 6376 - SOCIAL ISSUES Assessment of the social implications of development proposals having significant environmental effects. Duties will include liaison with government agencies and the private sector on the social implications of proposals and policies. Qualifications: Advanced degree in human geography, sociology, anthropology or resource management. Practical experience in community or social work desirable. VACANCY 6375 - COASTAL RESOURCES Environmental assessment of projects and policies affecting the marine and coastal environment. Experience in management of coastal or fisheries resources desirable. The multi-million dollar development will result in: A five-fold increase in the production of steel a fully integrated steel mill. The Company’s expansion will incorporate the latest steel production technology enabling it effectively to convert the country’s natural resources of ironsand and coal into finished steel productions for both the domestic and export markets. The increased steel production, plus the new rolling mills, will enable the company to substitute its own rolled steel products for its current imports. MIS-PLANS: New Zealand Steel operates with the newly released Burroughs A 9 Processor which will be upgraded to a dual configuration. The network will grow to some 200 to 300 terminals. Included in the network will be a number of process control mini-computers which are to be interfaced to the mainframe, and a large number of microcomputers which will double as terminals. THE JOB: We currently have a vacancy for a senior computer operator. At the moment a twoshift 5 days per week operation is running, but this will require to be extended to 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, sometime in the next few months, to service the production plants’ on line service. THE PERSON: An operator with several years experience is sought, preferably with supervision experience. Knowledge of Burroughs hardware, network control, and production scheduling would be an added advantage. Age range is likely to be 25-30 years. THE COMPANY: New Zealand Steel Limited is a public company formed in 1966. It currently employs 1600 staff increasing at the completion of the expansion. The company is situated at Glenbrook, a rural area approximately 65km south of central Auckland.
