Siting of petrol tanks

Sir, — Over the last few years Lyttelton residents have been lulled into an acceptance of the risks of having a petrol farm close to a residential area. The explosion on Monday was a rude awakening in more than one sense of the word. It is time that residents looked closely at the possible risks inherent in the replacement of the tank by the Mobil Oil Company. A public meeting has been called to discuss this issue. — Yours, etc., PETER ZWART. Lyttelton. June 28, 1985.
