Tough Cup draw for All Whites

PA Auckland If New Zealand wins the Oceania group of the World Cup soccer competition it will meet either Spain, Scotland or Wales. One of those three countries will be the runner-up in the European group seven competition, according to New Zealand officials. After playing an away game, New Zealand would return to Auckland for a home game against the group seven runner-up on December 4.

This, like New Zealand’s dramatic play-off against China in Singapore in the last World Cup, would be the last game in the almost two-year-long qualifying series.

The N.Z.F.A. has had a victory in the appointment of referees for their home games in the qualifying round. F.I.F.A. has advised that the request for “other than Asian referees” has been granted and European referees will be appointed for the All Whites’ four home games.

However, that will be an added expense to the already costly cup campaign.
