Socialism
Sir, — In reply to David Mackintosh and Susan Taylor, socialism has not yet been established anywhere in the world, not in the Soviet Union. China, or What
they have is State capitalism in the name of socialism. You cannot have socialism in one or a few countries it must be world-wide and there must be complete freedom of movement for all people, that is, no geopolitical barriers or frontiers. Who ever heard of wages under socialism? There will be none; it will be a wageless, moneyless society of production for use, not for profit by selling. However, pseudo—socialism in China and Russia has at least fed and housed the people better than old-style laissez-faire capitalism did. The trouble now is that the ungrateful peasants have become impatient for the real thing. - Yours, etc., TED HICKS. June 19, 1985. Sir, — One of the objections to the free enterprise system is that it does not distribute wealth equally. The problem with Tanzania’s scientific socialism is that it distributes poverty so equally. — Yours, etc., DAVID DUMERGUE. June 20, 1985.
