Lion Breweries’ Steinlager has been named the best out of 127 bottled lagers in a long-established and prestigious British competition that attracts entries from throughout the world. The competition, judged last week at Burton upon Trent, was run by Britain’s Brewers’ Guild, the Allied
Brewery Trades Association, 3 and the Institute of Brewers. Judging was done by a panel of 30 who tasted more than 800 entries divided into several classes. The New Zealand entry won the “best in world for international bottled lager” category. Other entries came from Norway, the Netherlands, Kenya, Can-
ada, and India. Many were made under licence in the United Kingdom. The award, made at different intervals and won last by a British brewery, Matthew Brown, of Blackburn, carries with it a trophy presented by the “Brewers’ Guardian” and the international “Brewer and Distillers” publication.
