N.Z. woman charged with $91,000 fraud
NZPA staff correspondent Sydney A New Zealand woman charged with defrauding the Australian Government of nearly sAust62,ooo ($91,000) has been given until the end of the year to prove she need not be sent to jail. Mitylene Lynette Wendy Harrison, aged 32, has been ordered to undergo psychiatric care, attend a special day care centre, and not leave New South Wales, among other conditions, after pleading guilty to 24 counts of fraud. She is to reappear at a
Sydney district court on December 9 when Judge William Ward will decide on her progress and sentence. In the meantime she has been released on sAust3oo bail. Harrison was charged in November last year with obtaining the money through false registrations for the dole and sickness benefits between late 1980 and September last year. The Court was also told that in 1971 in Auckland Harrison had been acquitted on the ground of insanity of the murder of a baby at Auckland Hospital.
