Park upgraded
The revenue earned from Canterbury’s long tenure of the Ranfurly Shield and that derived from major one-day cricket internationals has assisted with a facelift for Lancaster Park. In excess of *150,000 has been spent on the installation of, amongst other things, a completely new drainage system, an elaborate watering system giving total instant coverage of the oval, the regrading of the outfield and the reconstruction of the wicket block. Modem toilet blocks, women’s at the Telfourd Street
entrance and men’s and women’s behind the No. 1 stand, have now been provided as part of the general upgrading of amenities. A number of unsightly implement sheds have been removed to make way for the new facilities behind the No. 1 stand. The other major change to facilities at the park has been the repainting of the No. 1 stand. The colour scheme complements that of the rugby union building on the Stevens Street frontage and is aimed at presenting an improved image at that entrance to the park.
