Severe reprimand for St Helens player

PA Auckland The New Zealand Rugby League last evening confirmed that the St Helens player, Roy Haggertv, ordered off on Wednesday for a high tackle ?.y r ' n B match against Waikato, would receive a severe reprimand. Both Haggerty and the Auckland referee, Mr Ray Shrimpton, were heard at a judicial committee meeting at Huntly. The committee comprised representatives from the host league, the national league and touring team management. The-St Helens chairman and tour .Aianager, Mr John Clegg, said last evening his team was not a group of “head-hunters.”

He added: "We have come here to play football and we certainly do not want to repay the grand hospitality that we have received oy presenting an image of being intent on high tackling. "There was so much ducking and diving in the game against Waikato on Wednesday that there were the inevitable accidental high tackles." Mr Clegg rejected any suggestion that St Helens, the English league premiership winner, could leave before the four-match tour is due to end. Meanwhile, Mark Broadhurst, who has been for Hull Kingston Rovers, has indicated he wiA not be available for the Kiwis this year.
