Rape charges dropped after “pressure”

PA Auckland Pressure allegedly put on a young woman not to give evidence led to rape charges against two youths being dropped in the District Court at Auckland yesterday. Sergeant Graham Crawford told Judge Blackwood that the complainant was “under considerable pressure from her family and from a rape crisis centre not to give evidence.” He applied to withdraw charges against Jayson Lou

Bridger, aged 18, unemployed, of Papakura: and Tony John Graham, aged 18. a builder, of Blockhouse Bay. They faced a joint charge of raping a young woman, aged 17, on Waiheke Island on October 21. Bridger faced a separate charge of rape and Graham one of indecently assaulting the same woman. They had not entered pleas. The Judge said that all charges against the accused were withdrawn by leave.
