Volunteer driver’s car ‘wrecked’

A car owned by a volunteer driver for the Cancer Societj’ was yesterday recovered badly damaged from the 'Waimakariri River, where it had been dumped by car thieves. Mrs Ng’aire Taylor’s car was stolen from outside Christchurch Hospital on Tuesday night while she was staying'overnight at the hospital with a foster child undergoing treatment. The theft of the Ford Cortina has angered a daughter of Mrs Taylor.

Mrs Mary Griffiths. “There’s hardly a salvageable panel left on the car. It had been nose-dived in to the river,” she said. The thieves had also crashed and badly damaged the car at some earlier stage. The vehicle, which had now been stolen twice, had only third-party insurance, said Mrs Griffiths. She was annoyed that the persons repsonsible had gone out of their way to “wreck” the vehicle.
