Tourism funds boost welcomed
PA Auckland The Tourism Council's chairman, Mr John Milne, yesterday described increased Government spending on tourism as dramatic but essential. “Over all it is a milestone for the tourism industry, and the biggest leap forward that has ever been taken,” Mr Milne said. The Minister of Tourism, Mr Moore, said earlier that the Government would increase tourism spending $B.B million to $16.4 million in 1985-86.
The spending would be for tourism promotion
overseas, and the development of New Zealand facilities.
Mr Milne said the increase would lift New Zealand into the same arena as its main competitors. “The grant in lieu of depreciation is also important and will help encourage investors into the industry,” he said.
"We are delighted with the Government's support of our recommendations. The industry’s major needs have been fully met and the Minister deserves to be congratulated on the dramatic but essential increases?
