General forecast: An intense stationary anti-cyclone is centred south-east of Otago, and a south-east airstream covers northern and central New Zealand. District forecasts: Canterbury: Cloudy at times about the coast and plains with a few showers, especially in the afternoon, otherwise fine and frosty. Nelson, Buller: Fine and cool, with moderate variable winds.

Marlborough: Mostly cloudy and cool; scattered showers, and areas of coastal drizzle; fresh south-easterlies about the outer sounds. Westland: Fine, with moderate easterlies; some frosts in sheltered places. Tomorrow: Similar conditions.
