Improved form by Malakula at Addington trials

Malakula showed improvement on his recent race efforts when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday. The track was slow early, but it improved during the day. However, it was not nearly as slow as some of the times might suggest. Malakula made much of the pace and won well by a length at the end of 2600 m in 3min 425, the last 800 m in Imin 0.35, the last 400 m in 29.45. Rocky Spot ran on for second, a neck in front of Count Gray, with Main Point and Blue Willow next.

While his time was slow, Troubador shaped attractively in preparation for the Sapling Stakes on Friday. He finished under a strong hold to shade Bandstan and Lucky Berry in 2min 56.8 s for the 2000 m, the last 800 m in Imin 4.2 s and the final 400 m in 31.25. The other heat for two-year-olds was won by Citation in 2min 52.85, the last 800 m in Imin 3.45, and the final 400 m in 30s. Citation got up in the last stride to beat her stalemate, Entrancing, by half a head, with a similar margin to Darter.

Nevele Lady (3min 37.85) and Earl Evander (Sinin 445) won the events for Cl pacers and trotters respectively. Rebel Time qualified impressively, trotting the 2600 m in 3min 37s at the start of the day. A member of Don Nyhan’s team, he is a three-year-old by Yankee Reb from Scotch Time and looks a likely type. The only pacer to qualify was the Jack Smolenskitrained Thorniea, a three-year-old by Dryham Lea from Rexona. He recorded 3min 17.4 s for the 2400 m, just inside the required

time. Reb’s Star won the trotters’ sweepstake in 3min 38.35, with Adrian’s Dream (3inin 36.95) being successful in the pacers’ sweepstake. Ann Lobell (3min 31.75), Gaiety (3min 33.65), Miss Bojangles (3min 365), Maida Point (3min 36.25) and Idle Thoughts (3min 35.35) were successful in events for CO pacers. Iseult showed ability to dash through along the rails and beat Front Up and Billy Joel in the event for slowclass trotters, recording 3rnin 445, with the last 400 m in 31.75.
