Govt will pay full hay-cartage costs
Wellington reporter The Government is paying the full cost of carting hay by road or rail from Southland to the drought areas of North Otago and South Canterbury, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle. He denied reports that the Government was rebating only road-user charges on
hay trucked from Southland. The rate per bale had been set after discussions with Federated Farmers, the Road Transport Association, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Agriculture. Cartage had begun on Monday and had to be completed by Saturday, June 8, Mr Moyle said.
