Geothermal policy proposals

PA Wellington A report covering submissions on a new policy for 11 North Island geothermal fields is expected to go to Government Ministers in the next six weeks, says the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard. The draft geothermal policy was released in December, and 51 submissions were received. These were being considered by the Official Geothermal Co-Ordinating Committee which consists of representatives of Government departments, including the Tourist and Publicity Department, and the Commission for the Environment and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research; Mr Tizard said he expected the report to Ministers, the public submissions and the final geothermal policy would be released to the public in two or three months.
