Dogs shot by farmers
Sir,—There should be no need for people such as Lily Hym (May 23) to complain about their beloved dogs being shot by Farmers, if their dogs were trained or properly confined on their own property. Farmers owe much to their own working animals, and are forced to take this step complained of by Lily Hym, because town-folk think that all land in the country is a free area for their pets to roam. Telephone warnings to owners of dogs seen trespassing are not heeded.
Nobody likes to take this step, but, because of thoughtless owners, some lovely dogs have had to be shot. Owners of well trained dogs will know what I mean.—Yours, etc., MRS I. E. HIDE. May 24, 1985.
