Incentives phased out
The Canterbury Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Government’s move to phase out market-develop-ment incentives to exporters rather than cancel them summarily. It was incorrectly reported yesterday that the chamber welcomed exportmarket incentives announced on Wednesday by the Government. What Mr Kelvin Willis, executive director of the Canterbury Chamber, said Was: “The changes to export market development incentives were welcome in that they allowed a gradual
phasing down of the incentives. “These export-market incentives were extremely important in that they helped the new technology industries expand, and helped established industries adapt to change,” Mr Willis said. “The reductions in the market-development incentives would compound the problem of maintaining overseas offices and representatives, and other overseas marketing activities. These activities had become much tougher since the devaluation of the New Zealand dollar.”
