Aust, promise on S.A.

NZPA-AAP Canberra Australia would join any move by the Commonwealth to ban trade with South Africa as a protest against apartheid, the Prime Minister, Mr Hawke, has said.

Mr Hawke will attend a meeting of Commonwealth heads of Government at Nassau in the Bahamas in October. The Third World com-

prises three-quarters of the Commonwealth, of which black African countries make up the biggest bloc, supported by a host of Caribbean nations.

Interviewed on Sydney radio, Mr Hawke said, “If the Commonwealth wants as a Commonwealth not to trade with South Africa, we will be in that.”
